The Race for the Cure 5K 2014 will always remind me of how far I’ve come since that day two years ago when I got diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer and life took an unexpected turn. A survivor and friend, Merrilee Neal, encouraged me to walk in the race that year. As the “newest survivor” just starting chemotherapy, it was emotional, inspirational and exactly what I needed to see that life would go on.
I spoke recently about the “Patient Experience” at a radiation therapy conference. I talked a lot about the medical team involved in my care, their expertise and their compassion. I’ve met the most amazing people through this journey and their positivity has made all the difference.
I organized Team Pretty in Pink again for this year's Race for the Cure 5K on Sunday, Nov. 6 in Balboa Park in honor of those who have battled breast cancer, in memory of friends who lost their lives to this disease and to celebrate the medical team, friends and family who've been there for me each step of the way. Please join me! It will be hard to top last year - Team Pretty in Pink was one of the biggest teams and the top fundraiser – but any support makes a difference. I can’t wait to walk again, celebrate each step and let cancer know it didn’t break me!
