A Celebration

To celebrate my nearly 13 years as a breast cancer survivor and advocate, I will be participating in and raising money for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on November 1.  When I was diagnosed, I made three promises; to help women and their families and friends as they walked the journey through breast cancer; to talk with anyone who would listen about the importance of early detection through monthly self exams, yearly exams by a healthcare professional and yearly mammograms at 40; and to raise as much money as I could to help women with little or no health insurance get the screening and treament they need and fund important reseach to find new treatments and the cures for breast cancer.  YOU are instumental in hleping me with my third promise and I sincerely appreciate your past support. 

I always set high fundraising goals; sometimes I fall short; sometimes I exceed the amount.  I am painfully aware of the state of the economy and the impact on all of us.  That's why I am starting early.   Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $10,000 by making a tax-deductible donation today.  You can donate by coming back each month, if need be!  But, I encourage you to match my personal $125 donation; that's the cost of a mammogram here in San Diego.  And, like last year, I will donate an afghan in your name for a woman going through chemotherapy for breast cancer to the Sharp Women's Breast Health Center for every donation of $125.

What does Komen do?
For more than 25 years, Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer – transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease, and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.
Over the next 25 years, an estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer if we don’t find a cure.  Komen will not stop until we discover and deliver the cures. That’s our promise.
