> TR/2010 San Diego Affiliate - Race for the Cure
Welcome to Cheryl's Page!
|
Well it's that time of year again and I am busy training for my newest event, the Komen Race for the Cure! The Susan G. Komen Race for the CureŽ Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrating breast cancer survivorship and honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease. With funds raised by the Komen Race for the CureŽ Series, Komen with its Affiliate Network is able to fund breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world. Since its origination in Dallas in 1983, the Komen for the CureŽ Series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a series of more than 100 Races with more than one million people expected to participate. In 2008-2009 the Komen San Diego Affiliate was able to fund $650,000 for education, screening and treatment services in San Diego County.
It is hard to believe it has been over four years since my Mom passed away. Not having her here at my wedding this June brings great sadness to my heart- a sadness that no bride or daughter should ever have to bear, especially on what is supposed to be the happiest day of their life! In memory of her love and friendship, I am trying to do my small part to keep hope alive by increasing breast cancer awareness and spreading the word about early detection and alternative treatments. Chemotherapy and radiation are not the only answers out there and without programs like the Race for the Cure, so many more moms, daughters, sisters, sons and fathers will die due to side effects of their breast cancer treatments! We cannot let this happen again!!! I am asking for your support in this endeavor. Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve this goal. I will be doing the running............all you need to do is send in the enclosed donation form. All pledges must be received by December 7, 2010. Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds go to San Diego County organizations that provide free diagnostics, screening, treatment, services and education to the uninsured or underinsured in our county. The remaining 25 percent of the funds go to important national research.
My mom used to say: "We are angels with one wing; only by embracing each other can we learn to fly". I am asking for your support in this endeavor. Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve this goal!
