WE'RE BAAACK!!!

It's true folks, this will be our 5th year participating in the Susan G Komen San Diego Race for the Cure.  And with it being our 5th year, we thought we would add one more rascal to our family, so our newborn son Benjamin will complete the group with Becca, Yazzi, Baloo and myself...making us 5 strong for our 5th year!

Every year I try my best to describe for all of you just what this means to Becca and I.  But every year I feel like I fall short and never get the emotionality and excitement across accurately.  It truly is one of those things that goes beyond words and something you need to experience for yourself.  Seeing the sheer number of participants and volunteers, to hear or read the personal stories of the fight against the disease, the successes and the losses right there at the starting line and to walk or run the relatively short but beautiful course through San Diego's Balboa Park.  Sure San Diego has beautiful days all year, but this day is truly an epic day.

The reason why we have done this the past 5 years is simple.  Besides having immediate family members who have fought and are fighting breast cancer there are the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed at some point in their lifetime.  In 2009, almost 200,000 women are expected to be diagnosed.  And men, we are not immune either as nearly 2000 men will be diagnosed this year as well.  Every one of us knows someone personally or knows of someone who has been diagnosed, fought, survived or lost to this disease.  And though over the past 30 years the numbers of cases has increased, the truly important statistic is that the mortality rate has dropped!  Put very simply - our donations are doing something and we are head in the right direction.

I know this past year and a half has been tough for a lot of us and our families.  The economy has been brutal.  But every year we receive such great support from our family and friends and we hope to see that again this year.  Just to let you know, last year with your donations (totaling over $2000) we became part of the top 100 fundraisers for the San Diego race...in case you weren't sure, this is HUGE!!!

So we ask you again to dip into your pockets and donate what you can.  Maybe you save $25-$50 for a weekly night out...perhaps you can make yourself another salad and donate that to finding a cure.  Donate whatever you are comfortable with...there is no minimum and there is no maximum. You may donate online with your credit card by clicking the “Donate” button.  Again, we thank you for the bottom of our hearts.

The support you have given us and the Cure over the past 5 years has been overwhelming.  We hope that you can continue to do so as we move forward because we have no intentions of quitting.  As I say every year, the more we can donate the longer these researchers and scientists have to stay in their seats and work on finding a cure.  Like I said, we are heading in the right direction. With your help, we will find a CURE!!!

Best,

Adam, Becca, Benjamin, Yazzi and Baloo
