Welcome to our Komen Race for the Cure® Team Ursula page!
As a member of this team, we each play a part in helping Susan G. Komen for the Cure® end breast cancer forever. Ending a disease is a daunting task. When I think about past treatment of breast cancer victims, I know we are making progress. And when I think about polio, plague, smallpox, I know it is possible to eliminate disease...
Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That’s Komen's promise.
We run and walk in honor of our friend Ursula, who died in January, 2014. She fought an amazing battle, and seemed to enjoy life to the very end. She knew her friends, and enjoyed their visits. She chose the logo for our team, and gave us permission to name the team after her. When asked, she replied, "I'm honored!"
We also honor our dear friend Jodi, who also passed away in January, 2014. She was a vibrant woman, who lived her life to the fullest. I am so happy she was able to travel to Italy with her siblings, and to Banff, Canada, with her husband and daughter in her last year. Breast cancer has taken too many friends, far too early.
In 2015, we lost Ann. Ann was an amazing women of great faith. She showed us how to live and how to die with grace. Last fall, we lost Brenda. She also fought the brave battle, and we miss her terribly. Ursula, Jodi, Ann and Brenda have gone before us, all victims of this cruel disease.
One day there will be a cure. One day we will know how to prevent cancer!
